‘Succor the Southwest’ will transform ideas into climate action
Las Vegas, NV (September 26, 2022) — On October 22, TEDxFremontEastDistrict will host a free, all-day event focused on actions people can take to address climate issues in an equitable manner. ‘Succor the Southwest,’ is a locally organized event of TED Countdown, a global initiative to champion and accelerate solutions to the climate crisis. Inspirational climate speakers, performers, and sponsors can participate by applying at www.tedxfremonteastdistrict.com.
This TEDx event will combine TED’s signature blend of actionable and research-backed ideas, cutting-edge science, and moments of wonder and inspiration. Topics include:
-
Energy: How can we switch to 100 percent clean power in an equitable way while preserving biodiversity and sacred land?
-
Transportation: How can we upgrade and improve the way we move people and things while reducing greenhouse gasses?
-
Materials: How can we re-imagine and re-make the materials used for clothing, buildings, and other industries to reduce harmful emissions and landfill waste?
-
Food: How can we spark a worldwide shift to healthier and more resilient food systems while reducing hunger?
-
Nature: How do we better protect and appreciate our limited natural resources, wildlife, and green spaces locally and globally?
The event is free and open to the public, however, seating is limited and RSVP is strongly encouraged. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in open and inclusive discussions, and reflect on the talks during event workshops and interactive activities. Speakers and performers will have the opportunity to be featured on the official TED YouTube and TED website following the event, enabling others to learn about what can and will be done in Las Vegas and how it can be replicated in their own communities.
Confirmed speakers and performers include Ray Delahanty of CityNerd sharing his talk “Living Car-Free in Vegas and Other Questionable Life Choices,” poet Ms. AyeVee, performing “Desert Flowers,” Carmen Gonzales a board member of the Las Vegas Indian Center, and Jennifer Inaba, a Climate Reality Project leader, and mentor.
“It’s really exciting to see Las Vegas open its stage to host such an important dialogue to inspire action for climate solutions that center on a clean, safe, and equitable future for people and the planet,” says Jennifer Inaba. “These talks invite engaging reflection and opportunities for our communities to come together on critical issues we face and expand our collective impact to a global scale.”
